Enough of that

by DoreenEdwards @ 28/07/06 - 08:01:32 am

I'm sick of seeing that creepy photo every time I visit my site so here is something different.

My new improved garden
I'm so glad I had the sense to go ahead with it.

Fright!

by DoreenEdwards @ 25/07/06 - 05:05:30 pm

Opened my bedroom curtains this morning to see this -

P1000010

Didn't half give me a turn for a minute. Gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "hung out to dry".

Vulnerable egg donors

Patti Farrant, 62, the oldest mother, so far, wanted to enable her husband to have a child of his own. Her actions have caused much consternation and debate.

Another sad thing is that the child she carried is not her biological son. He is the baby of some poor, even desperate, Eastern European woman who sold her eggs, probably for a pittance and at great risk to her own chances of having children of her own in future. Farrant paid £11,000 for the treatment. The donor probably got £150 or less. This is scandalous.

One can readily understand a young infertile woman desperately wanting a child and be willing to pay but in Farrant’s case, 62 and already a mother there can be little sympathy or excuse.

The international egg donation trade is preying on the vulnerable.

Oldest Mother

She’s 62, he’s 60. Her reason for having a baby by IVF - to fulfil her husband’s dream of becoming a father. What a shallow irresponsible reason. These are two very selfish people. Was there any real thought for their child and what his future holds as the son of old age pensioners? This smacks of vanity and self-regard.

“We have no regrets,” she says. Are they speaking for their son JJ, too? When he is ten they will be in their seventies. When he is twenty they will be in their eighties. What a burden for him. How thoughtless and uncaring.

There was a similar newspaper story a few days earlier. This time twins were born (if that term can be applied to a Caesarean section) to a 59 year old woman, again by IVF. Vanity, all is vanity.

The joys of children in their informative years sharing lively and interesting persuits with energetic young parents are denied to these children of the elderly.

I am all for staying young if possible but having a baby in your latter years is not the way.
