DR WHO

I looked forward to Dr Who last evening - David Tennant is doing well in the role. However Pauline Collins didn't convince me she was Queen Victoria - no presence.
Usually I enjoy each episode but last night I was a bit disappointed. Sure, it was exciting enough as far as it went. The plot started out well, but the rest did not live up to the early promise. I could have done without the royal family joke at the end - a cheap shot. Maybe Russell T Davies is getting a bit too big for his boots.

Let's see what he has for us next Saturday.

What made it more interesting was the fact that on Friday when they had a programme on the Queen being 80 prince Andrew admitted that the Royal family were all Dr Who fans and he used to hide behind the Queen on the sofa.

  RTD may find himself in the Tower! A joke in the worst taste, if you ask me. The plot ending was rather lame - an anticlimax really - so the writer had to hike it up somehow hence the royal joke.
  
  The Queen, if she was watching, must have murmured 'We are not amused!'

Have to agree Doreen, if the children and I have not hid behind the sofa once in the episode, then it just does not rate on the WHO scan. I missed last week's episode, so this was my first viewing of Mr Tennant - not too sure, Just a thought, when do you think we will see the next transformation of the doctor, perhaps into a female role????

  A female Dr Who is long overdue. Thanks for making that point. Years ago when a new Doctor had to be found, I remember the BBC asked for suggestions. I sent them a coloured sketch of a robust female in a rather fetching black leather skin-tight suit. Had no reply of course, and another male actor was chosen. Oh well!
  
  I hope future episodes measure up to what Dr Who fans expect and want.

I couldn't believe they said that about Princess Anne - a really cheap shot.

I like David Tennant as Doctor Who, though I prefer him with his natural Scottish accent.

  It was cheap all right. I felt the plot ending was thin, so they had to do something to cover that. I'm happy with David Tennant in the role but I did like the more muscular performance of Eccleston. He inspired confidence that everything would turn out all right.
  
  I didn't realise that David Tannant is Scottish, and I think you're right about letting him use his natural accent - it gives an extra depth to the character.

    I liked Christopher Eccleston too, I'd been a fan of his for quite a while.
    I don't know why they didn't let David Tennant use his normal accent, why can't Doctor Who have an accent?

      I expect that they won't let David Tennant use his natural accent because Dr Who is not supposed to be from around these parts. I wish he would too though.

I thought it was an improvement on the first episode of the new series. I did like Queen Victoria though. I've recently seen the trailer for next week; and Sarah Jane and K9 appear.

I've been enjoying the episodes so far, but last Saturday's didn't quite hit the spot for me. Not that I'll stop watching - I've been a fan of Dr Who since it began.

I see what you say about the trailer for the next episode - and I'll look forward to watching again.

I must admit to not being a huge Dr Who fan but hubby is, I must agree about Queen Vic -thought it was pretty scarey for very young children. Very tongue in cheek and I do like David Tennant, it's sort of okay.

  I've been a Dr Who fan since it began. I can still remember the first Doctor. The actor's name escapes me for the moment - William ? I'm sure his last name began with a H. I can remember his face and the excitement I felt watching the wobbly sets. Sheer magic! I was fascinated but never scared. What does that say about me?
